Gordon Waller died aged sixty-four of heart attack on 17th July 2009 at Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, U.S.A.. He is survived by his wife, Josenia, his daughters, Phillippa and Natalie his granddaughter, Tyla, and his two sisters, Diana and Annie.Photo of Gordon Waller
Gordon Waller was born Gordon Trueman Riviere Waller on 4th June 1945 in Braemar, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, U.K. the son of a prominent surgeon. The family later moved to Middlesex, England, when Gordon was a child, where he gained entrance to Westminster School where he met fellow student Peter Asher, also the son of a doctor and they began playing together as the duo – Peter and Gordon.
Peter is the brother of actress Jane Asher, who in the mid-1960s was girlfriend of The Beatles' Paul McCartney and hrough this connection he and Gordon Waller were often given unknown Lennon–McCartney songs to perform, most notably their first and biggest hit, "A World Without Love" in 1964.
Peter and Gordon parted company in 1968. After this break, Gordon Waller attempted a solo career with partial success, releasing one record. On this album Gordon used a New York-based group White Cloud, featuring Teddy Wender on keyboards. He also appeared in a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat as Pharaoh in 1971. Gordon Waller first performed "Joseph" at the Edinburgh Festival, later reprising the role at the Albery Theatre in London's West End. In the mid-1970s Gordon Waller worked as a photocopier salesman in Bedford, Bedfordshire, U.K.. In 1995, he moved to Los Angeles, California,U.S.A. and started a publishing company, Steel Wallet International.Ltd with his longtime friend and girlfriend, Georgiana. After his divorce from wife Gay was final, he and Georgiana married on 15th August 1998, although they divorced nine years later.
In 2007, Gordon Waller released a solo album 'Plays the Beatles', featuring a new recording of "Woman", which Paul McCartney wrote under the pseudonym of Bernard Webb, and which had bimage of Gordon Wallereen a Peter and Gordon hit in the mid-1960s. In 2008, he followed up with the release of 'Rebel Rider'. In July 2008, Peter and Gordon performed together at The Cannery Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S.A. On 21st August 2008, they performed a free concert on the pier in Santa Monica, California, briefly accompanied by singer Joan Baez.
